How I Price My Artwork

Understanding how I price my artwork is easy! And surprisingly effective!

Why is the piece you like priced the way it is?

My pricing is fairly straightforward. That said, I always struggled with how to price my artwork. In the past it was inconsistent and I didn't have any idea if I should price on merit, perceived value, or what. But I read an article a few years ago that’ll explained an approach to pricing that I hadn't seen before.

Pricing by the square inch.

I thought to myself, "Well, that's just genius." And I began pricing my works by the square inch. Mind you, I still need to establish a base price per square inch per medium, but once established it's easier to quickly ascertain whether a piece is sellable or even worth doing at a certain size.

Here's the structure. All prices are before sales tax and shipping are applied.

Non-commissioned pricing

Digital - $.20

That's right. Digital is only 20 cents per square inch. That may not seem like much, however, you have to understand two things. It's not exclusively owned, as others can buy the same print. The artwork creation price is the only cost that is front-loaded as these pieces are created on-demand.
